π Description: **General Purpose:** To provide patient care through utilization of the nursing process. The nursing process is demonstrated by the staff registered nurseβs ability to work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health care team in planning, directing, providing and evaluating patient care. The ED RN/Charge Nurse is responsible for providing leadership, positive role modeling and critical thinking skills. The charge nurse provides direct patient care as needed. The charge nurse acts as liaison between all areas: Emergency Room, Acute Care, Swing Bed and Extended Care Services by effectively communicating and problem solving. This position provides leadership and positive role modeling to facilitate staff development and teamwork. The ED RN/Charge Nurse is accountable for completion of all essential shift duties for his/her position as well as those of the staff he/she supervises.
**Essential Duties/Responsibilities:**
* Works with acutely ill patients, including emergency situations
* Responds to other departments requesting emergency assistance and assigns staff accordingly during emergencies
* Works with swing bed patients, both skilled nursing and extended care
* Works independently as well as functioning as a team member
* Maintains an organized and timely change\\-of\\-shift report that enables all oncoming staff to hear report on all patients in the facility.
* Capable of adapting to changing environment while maintaining professionalism
* Nursing Process β Assess patient needs, Identify patient problems
* Plans and implements appropriate nursing interventions
* Evaluates patient care outcomes and documents all of the above
* Teaching β Identifies the learning needs of the patient and/or significant others and initiates measures to meet these needs.
* Leadership β Provides direction to other members of the nursing team to ensure that patient care is administered in a thorough, safe, and knowledgeable manner.
* Being a positive leader to others while supporting the hospital goals
* Functions in formal leadership positions as assigned to plan, direct, and coordinate unit activities.
* Assists with orientation for nursing students and/or new personnel to provide training and direction. Serves as preceptor in the orientation of new staff (both permanent and contract staff
* Identifies problem areas in nursing unit, such as understaffing, absenteeism and wastefulness, and takes corrective action in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
* Enforces NCHD policies and departmental rules to maintain the professionalism and good order of the patient care area. Respectfully hold staff accountable for carrying out job responsibilities.
* Fulfills the role of overseeing the delivery of optimal patient care in the absence of the Director of Nursing, maintaining communication with him/her regarding issues impacting patient care.
* Attends all mandatory meetings and is a contributor to the Service Excellence initiative.
* Attends trainings with our educational trainer (Mike Simoneaux) to keep up to date on skills and use of equipment.

**Education or Formal Training**:
* Must be a graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing
* Current licensure of Registered Nurse in the State of Wyoming
* Must maintain current ACLS, PALS, BLS, \\& TNCC certifications at all times
NCHD promotes a 7 on 7 off schedule. This position is a day shift position, 6:00am\\-6:00pm
