š Description: POSITION SUMMARY
DEFINITION
The Wound Management Nurse works collaboratively with physicians and staff to provide consultation regarding the clinical care of patients with wounds, ostomies and other specials skin care needs. Uses knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and health assessment in assessing and intervening in complex health care problems; selecting, using and/or evaluating products and equipment appropriate to the clinical area of practice; improving and promoting health care outcomes; developing and facilitating related staff education and in mentoring nursing staff.
Under the direction of the Director of Inpatient Services, is responsible for assessing, analyzing, planning, and implementing patient care measures related to wound management.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Possession of associate's degree in nursing or successful completion of an accredited Registered Nursing Program as evidence by licensure, from a recognized college or university.
Experience
Experience in an Acute Care or Skilled Nursing Facility preferred.
Wound Management training and current knowledge of wound and skin care management protocols preferred.
Licensure/Certification
Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse the State of California.
BLS certification through American Heart Association
Current national certification in Wound Care/Management within 9 months of hire/transfer
KNOWLEDGE \\& ABILITIES
**Knowledge of:**
Hospital established policies quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures and Nursing Practice Act of the State of California.
Current practice and involvement in the profession.
Medical instruments and equipment.
Medical terminology and hospital routine.
The uses and effects and appropriate documentation of medicine and narcotics.
Federal, State, and local laws and regulations governing professional aspects of nursing.
**Ability to:**
Plan and organize wound care plans for patients.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients and fellow employees, and all internal and external customers.
Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgement/action, which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.
Keep abreast of developments in area of skin and wound care.
Develop and provide education and guidance regarding wound care standards, including policies, procedures, protocols and documentation methods.
Mentor and coach staff in clinical practice to increase knowledge, skill and competence.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
