The RN Infection Prevention Surveillance Specialist provides clinical and technical expertise and coordinates surveillance activities as directed by the System Medical Director and System Director of Infection Prevention for INTEGRIS Health and as indicated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). This would also include monitoring trends and issues in healthcare, fostering systematic analysis of issues, and engaging in systematic inquiry ranging from problem solving to research. The RN Infection Prevention Surveillance Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Reviews/abstracts electronic medical record information based on standard surveillance definitions
* Uploads information to appropriate sites for mandatory reporting (e.g. National Healthcare Safety Network, Oklahoma State Department of Health)
* Assists in the development of surveillance and analysis methods that permit timely recognition and communication of infection problems
* Reports those diseases and/or conditions that are reportable by law to state and local health departments and interacts with the public health department to respond to inquiries as necessary (e.g., reporting of communicable diseases, healthcare worker exposure).
* Maintains a knowledge base of current infection prevention information through continuing education, published literature, internet access and professional organizations.
* Performs ongoing infection prevention surveillance activities as directed by appropriate infection prevention and control committees, including data analysis and development of strategies for improving healthcare outcomes.
* Performs data collection to include population at risk, device specific infection rates and infection rates by risk index.
* Performs analysis of surveillance data to identify trends in rates, pathogens, and antimicrobial resistance.
* Reviews implementation of appropriate precautions to reduce hospital acquired infections (i.e. ordering of isolation and compliance, review of process and outcome measures).
* Performs data collection to include populations at risk, device specific infection rates, and infection rates by risk index
* Assists facility customer base with accreditation and regulatory preparation (e.g. CMS validation process, document preparation, validation case reviews)
* Collaborates with infection preventionists and others (as needed) in developing and performing focused common causal analysis
* Maintains accurate and complete records of infection prevention policies, activities, and outcomes
* Assists in the identification and development of policies and procedures that improve the safety of patients and staff. Reports to the System Director of Infection Prevention with an indirect reporting relationship to each facility infection prevention program leader.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
**EXPERIENCE:**
* 2 years of acute or ambulatory RN experience
* Previous experience related to customer service standards when interacting with internal and external customers/members
* Previous experience using internal databases, word processing, surveillance software, spreadsheet and presentation applications
**LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:**
* RN (Registered Nurse) Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Oklahoma or current multistate license from a Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) member state
* BLS (Basic Life Support) Issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 30 days of hire
Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbal/written).
