๐Ÿ“ Description: Overview:
**Location:** Naval Medical Center Portsmouth \\- Radiology Oncology **Hours of Performance:** Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0700 and 1900 hours. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight and half (8\\.5\\) or ten and a half (10\\.5\\) hour period, to include an uncompensated thirty (30\\) minute to sixty (60\\) minute lunch break, respectively. Responsibilities:
* Plan, perform, and evaluate nursing care of radiation therapy inpatients and outpatients, using the nursing process to differentiate radiation sequelae from other medical problems requiring further care.
* Administers medications and continuously monitors the patient response. Complex medications are administered via oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal routes.
* Interpreted and communicates laboratory and diagnostic study results to the physician.
* Applies and maintains patient dressings according to Infection Control policies.
* Assesses all patients thoroughly for post\\-radiation side effects, including radiation implants and recommends possible discontinuance of treatment as necessary.
* Under supervision intervenes in emergent situations. Maintains all crash cart documentation and assist in staff training to meet JCAHO requirements.
* Collaborate with charge nurse and other staff members on inpatient units in order to maintain continuity of care.
* Exhibit expert clinical nursing judgment in assessing patient response to illness, toxicities and radiation therapy.
* Actively participates in the clinicโ€™s current investigational cooperative studies.
* Coordinate, manage, \\&/or scheduling patients for OR Prostate Brachytherapy cases, Vaginal Brachytherapy cases, MRI, CT, SRS, \\& other specialty areas for planning of care.
* Perform catheterization procedures for prostate volume studies and appropriately set up the room for the volume studies.
* Obtain from pharmacy and administer anti\\-hormonal agents (IM, subcutaneously) as ordered by provider for purpose of antineoplastic effects on neutralizing or inhibiting the production of natural hormones on hormone\\-dependent tumors.
* Scan/Export clinical records, consents, notes into Navy approved electronic medical record.
* Document \\& code all care provided in Radiation and Naval approved electronic medical record no later than end of shift.
* Collect all required blood work as ordered, label correctly per protocol, and send to lab for processing.
* Review workload schedule at least one week out \\& daily for add on patients to prepare required documents (reports, radiographic, treatment records) at least a day prior to patientโ€™s appointment with physician.

Qualifications:
**Degree/Education:** Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Graduate from a college or university accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

**Experience:** Possess a minimum of one (1\\) year of experience as an RN within the last three (3\\) years working with oncology or medical\\-surgical inpatient or outpatient patients and their families.


**Licensure:** Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in anyone (1\\) of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
