As a Registered Nurse specializing in addiction medicine, you will provide essential medical care and support to patients undergoing treatment for substance use disorders. Your role will involve assessing patient needs, developing individualized care plans, and administering prescribed treatments. You will monitor patient progress, manage withdrawal symptoms under clinical supervision, and educate patients and families on recovery strategies. Collaborating with a diverse healthcare team, you will ensure a safe and patient\\-centered approach to care while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and empathy.



**Job Duties**

* Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients upon admission to evaluate physical health status, mental health needs, and substance use history
* Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans in coordination with the interdisciplinary treatment team
* Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including Medication\\-Assisted Treatment (MAT), in accordance with physician orders and clinical protocols
* Monitor and manage withdrawal symptoms under clinical supervision, utilizing standardized tools such as CIWA\\-Ar or COWS
* Observe and document patient progress, response to treatment, and any changes in physical or behavioral health
* Provide patient and family education on recovery strategies, medication adherence, relapse prevention, and health maintenance
* Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to support a patient\\-centered, integrated approach to care
* Intervene appropriately during medical or behavioral health crises, following established emergency protocols
* Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant documentation in accordance with Ohio Board of Nursing standards, HIPAA regulations, and facility policies
* Support infection prevention and control practices, including monitoring for communicable diseases and maintaining a clean, safe clinical environment
* Participate in treatment team meetings to share nursing insights and contribute to holistic care planning
* Assist with transitions of care by coordinating referrals to external providers or higher levels of care as needed
* Track and maintain inventory of medical supplies and medications, including safe handling and documentation of controlled substances
* Adhere to standards set by OhioMHAS, the Ohio Board of Nursing, and internal quality assurance guidelines
* Provide mentorship or support to new staff or nursing students as directed
* Engage in ongoing professional development and training related to addiction medicine, nursing practice, and trauma\\-informed care
* Train and mentor new nursing staff as needed
* Engage in continuing education and quality improvement initiatives to support program goals and professional development







**License Requirements/Qualifications:**

* Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
* Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in addiction treatment, detoxification, behavioral health, or a related medical setting
* Experience administering Medication\\-Assisted Treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine, naltrexone, and methadone
* Proficiency in utilizing clinical tools such as CIWA\\-Ar (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol) and COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale)
* Strong understanding of substance use disorders, co\\-occurring mental health conditions, and withdrawal management protocols
* Familiarity with OhioMHAS guidelines and Joint Commission standards
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, supporting a trauma\\-informed and patient\\-centered model of care
* Excellent documentation and charting skills; experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred
* Strong crisis intervention and de\\-escalation skills, with the ability to respond calmly and effectively under pressure
* Solid organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast\\-paced clinical environment
* Compassionate and professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Commitment to confidentiality, HIPAA compliance, and ethical nursing practice
* Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays, as needed
