**Job Summary:**

The Trauma Program Coordinator (TPC) is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of the Trauma Performance Improvement Program in collaboration with the Trauma Program Director (TPD). This encompasses all areas and disciplines of the hospital that participates in the care of admitted injured patients. TPC is responsible for data collection and analysis along with developing education based on trends for pre\\-hospital and hospital staff. The TPC collaborates closely with Trauma Program leadership to assure compliance with Trauma standards and guidelines. The position will spend time completing quality assessment reviews of every injury\\-related case in our trauma registry software, developing and carrying out quality improvement projects, and providing trauma\\-related education in the form of in\\-person one\\-on\\-one education with staff in the PED and leading trauma\\-related presentations for the house\\-wide staff at Monroe Carell Jr.




The Pediatric Trauma Program Coordinator applies the nursing process to plan and manage the care of complex patients and programs in a comprehensive manner. Provides consultative services and actively seeks opportunities to collaborate with the health care team. Recognizes complex learning needs and consistently demonstrates effective patient and staff education. Demonstrates and role models effective communication to coordinate patient and family\\-centered care. Facilitates appropriate follow up care and/or refers patients (within the designated patient population) to the appropriate next level or site of care. Serves in an advocacy role on behalf of patients, families, staff, and caregivers to ensure safe, equitable healthcare provision. Ensures evidence\\-based care and continuously monitors patient and program outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to Board of Nursing standards.

We are o ne of two American College of Surgeon’s (ACS) Level I Pediatric Trauma Centers in the state and the only one in middle TN. We serve anywhere from 2800\\-3000 pediatric patients a year and admitted approximately 1200/yr. ACS site surveyors have said we are one of the five busiest trauma centers in the country.


**Team:**

The team is comprised of two trauma program coordinators, one Injury Prevention Program Manager, and six trauma registrars. While the position will also work with the Pediatric Surgery group, they also interface with other departments and services across the hospital. We host one peer\\-review committee meeting (Trauma Performance Management and Improvement), one operation meeting ( Tr auma Operational Process Performance Improvement Committee ), and one resuscitation view meeting (House\\-Wide Resuscitation Review)

**Qualifications:**

BSN


Obtain TN Nursing License


Obtain PALS/BLS Certification


5 years trauma nursing clinical experience preferably in pediatrics


Knowledge of computers, Microsoft Windows (Power Point, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

* Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.

**Technical Capabilities:**

* Nursing Patient Assessment \\& Evaluation (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of patient assessments and evaluations in practical applications of a difficult nature. Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations. Conducts inquiry with a thorough series of questions when patients state an ailment or complaint in order to accurately identify and elaborate on the problem. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to role model and coach less experienced peers.
* Care Planning (Intermediate): Demonstrates ability to anticipate and plan for complex resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work. Collaborates with members of the health care team to identify desired outcomes. Anticipates problems and obstacles before they arise. Able to adapt changes to patient care and area needs with minimal loss of disruption and loss of productivity. Develops creative ideas and takes innovative action to achieve planned goals and objectives. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to role model and coach less experienced peers.
* Nursing Patient Education (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of patient education in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of providing patient health education services without requiring instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
* Evidence\\-Based Practice (Advanced): Recognizes, Implements, and evaluates practice changes based on published research. Demonstrates expertise in applying evidence\\-based practices to challenging and complex situations.
