The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) demonstrates performance consistent with professional forensic nursing standards of practice, care, and performance, the Nurse Practice Act and the mission and goals of the organization.
Forensic Nurse Examiner provides forensic nursing services for all victims of violence/abuse/neglect. Is responsible for collecting and preserving forensic evidence while maintaining the chain of custody. Performs forensic examinations for the purpose of forensic injury identification and documentation. Works collaboratively to meet the acute needs of primary and secondary forensic patients by making appropriate patient referrals through identification and coordination of services throughout the community.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 1 year of recent acute care clinical experience as a registered nurse required.
Current BLS, required.
NYS SAFE certification required
Current ACLS, TNCC, and ENPC (or PALS) preferred
Certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for Adults and Adolescent (SANE-A) and Pediatrics (SANE-P) by the International Association of Forensic Nurses highly preferred
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
Completion of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner course in accordance with the International Association of Forensic Nurses Education Guidelines required
REQUIRED LICENSE:
Current NYS licensure as a Registered Nurse.
