  • Job Description Summary:
  • The Director of Finance and Administration for the School of Nursing (SON) and the School of Health Professions (SHP) is responsible for providing overall leadership, planning, and support related to the school’s administrative functions, including financial analysis, risk assessment, budget preparation and execution; oversight of purchasing, payroll, and travel; personnel administrative support and human resource management, advisor, and champion for process improvements. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor Controller, with a dotted reporting line to the Dean of School of Nursing and Dean of Health Professionals, the Director of Finance and Administration manages business and administrative functions on behalf of the Schools.

  • Job Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Deans, Associate Deans, Department Chairs and Program Directors serving as a resource and advisor.
  • Work closely with the Deans and school leadership to support and facilitate effective project and change management initiatives, offer trusted counsel and feedback, align, and coordinate resources to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Leads the strategic budget planning and manages the annual budget preparation to respond to reforecast changes. This will include the development of analysis for expenditures, high level financial review, qualitative analysis of results, and various financial projections. Analyze options related to budget operations and assist the Deans, Associate Deans, Department Chairs and Program Directors with developing budgets and strategies that support accomplishment of their goals and objectives.
  • Monitor fiscal performance of SON and SHP to ensure compliance and effective internal controls.
  • Analyze cost of operations and make recommendation to assure appropriate income and cash flow.
  • Supports unit reorganization and staff planning and leads the units in multi-year planning exercises to demonstrate long-term budget viability to assist in unit strategic resource planning.
  • Provides assistance and advice to all SON and SHP administrative staff concerning administrative policies, procedures and financial management.
  • Oversees hiring, classification, and reallocation of positions as well as monitoring the processing of necessary funding changes for faculty and staff.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to direct reports and team.
  • Create business processes, systems, and workflow that are efficient and effective, while providing excellent customer service.
  • Oversee the development implementation and communication of policies, processes, and programs to ensure adherence to relevant statutes, regulations, policies, and procedure in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Hosts open meetings with staff to communicate initiatives and/or changes in financial, administrative, and human resource processes or procedures as needed.
  • Represents Leadership and University Operations as a leader or member of university task forces, working groups, and committees as requested.

  • Required Qualifications
  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field.
  • Work Experience:
  • years of related work experience.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and/or long-range planning.
  • Experience building, supervising, and developing effective teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Education:
  • Master’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Work Experience:
  • Experience using ERP financial and reporting systems to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Experience in a large, complex organizational setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with local, state, and national HR rules and regulations pertaining to finance, including but not limited to employment laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements as evidenced by application materials
  • Knowledge of State of Kansas and KUMC personnel and purchasing policies and regulations as demonstrated by application materials.

  • Compensation Statement:
  • The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
