The KU ADRC is urgently growing our training programs to develop the next generation of clinicians to care for the growing burden of ADRD in an aging population. Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) play a critical role on the front lines in diagnosing and treating these neurodegenerative diseases. The goal of the APP Fellowship Program is to train APRNs in the diagnosis and treatment of dementia to meet the growing needs of this vulnerable population both at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and the greater Midwest region.
The program will provide APRNs with 6 months of intensive training in the clinical skills needed to optimally diagnose and treat individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRD). Fellows will provide care in the Memory Care Clinic along with physicians and APP mentors. In addition, fellows will participate in a variety of observational and learning opportunities including current ADRD treatments, neuropsychology, neuroimaging, biomarkers, social work support, end of life care planning, and research.
